Hurlock residents Lavonne Bratcher, 55, and Vincent Bratcher, 56, were both pronounced dead by first responders after their Mazda was rear-ended by a Jeep, sending them ping-ponging into a GMC truck, causing the fatal crash in Caroline County.
Shortly before 7 a.m. on March 11, troopers were called to a stretch of Federalsburg Highway north of Laurel Grove Road where there was a reported crash.
Investigators say that the Mazda, driven by Bratcher, was attempting to make a left turn onto Laurel Grove Road, when for unknown reasons, a Jeep struck the rear of the Mazda, subsequently causing the Mazda to be struck by a GMC.
The driver of the Jeep, Christopher McMullen, 31, of Federalsburg, a passenger, and the operator of the GMC were all also taken by paramedics to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
Route 313 was closed for more than three and half hours for the crash investigation.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation, which will be submitted to the State's Attorney's Office to decide whether charges should be filed.
